Herbal Gardens

*Shared Garden Member Commitment

The Shared Garden is a group effort performed by about 50 gardeners at the Forest Street Community Garden site. Gardeners of all levels of experience are welcome, and work together to accomplish all tasks. Harvests are shared equally with excess produce going to local community kitchens and food pantries. We strive for organic and earth friendly approaches and are always open to new ideas on how to achieve these goals..

  • Our group work times are Monday and Wednesday evenings 6-8 pm and Saturday morning 10 am-12 noon weather permitting.

  • Each member is expected to attend at least one work shift a week throughout the growing season, with accommodations made for vacations, work, kids activities…etc.

  • Extra work is needed in the spring for garden setup and planting, and in the fall for harvest and cleanup.

  • We correspond through emails, a white board at the garden, and a monthly meeting or potluck to let everyone know what has been done recently and what needs to be done next.

  • We have begun ordering seeds for starts and will work in the garden as early as we can weather permitting (March/April). We will put the garden to bed in late November or early December.

The beauty of our shared garden is the building camaraderie, sharing knowledge of plants, growing techniques, and recipes as well as - distributing workload and donating to the community. This is hard but rewarding work.
We look forward to gardening with you!
